Wilson Lake ice fishing

Went ice fishing a couple weeks ago with my brother in law and nephew. Ice was about 6 inches thick and about 15 people on the ice. We got out there just a little after lunchtime and the weather was just perfect it was about 50 degrees and no wind. we got set up on the ice and talked to several older guys on the lake about what to use for bait and they told us castmasters and bucktail jigs were working for striper, white bass and white perch. They also let us use some of their ice fishing holes so that we didn't have to drill any new ones. we sat for a little while with no luck but were seeing a few others pull in some nice fish. My brother in law and nephew moved about 25 yards to the southwest of me and after awhile started pulling in some white perch. After i would so about an hour and a half to two hours my nephew pulled in about a 6 pound striper. this was fun to see and help pull the fish out of the hole for him. I did not catch anything that day for whatever reason but did have a few bites but my brother in law managed to pull in some white bass. It was fun since i have not ice fished since i was a child. i will hopefully be doing this again soon.

memorial weekend

Well i usually do not go to the lake on memorial weekend to fish because most of the time we have disrespectful jet skiers, and skiers invading our space while trying to fish. But me and 2 friends did anyway because we really just thought we could catch some fish. Well my friend and i went out on Sunday and got to the lake at about 10:30 or so, we got the boat on the lake and cruised to the west end about a half mile or so from the boat ramp. we started drifting and fishing with jig and worm along the south shore and probably not more then 15 minutes fishing my friend hooked a walleye while drifting. Well after that our other friend showed up so we had to cruise back in to shore to pick him up. After we got him we went back out to the same spot. after awhile of not catching anything we moved farther west where after fishing for a while and just catching a few short walleye and drum and white perch we drifted farther west past a fish feeder, well after about 100 yards past that fish feeder we started hitting white bass one after another. we each had two poles out to equal six and at any given time there was at least three poles at a time getting hit. we drifted past this spot several more times and managed to land at least 30 white bass and kept not quite half of them, some of them were a little small but also were some quality fish in with them. Well after this action quit we decided to drift the river channel but had no success most of our success was in the shallower water which is where we tried next. We went to the spot where i caught my 3 pound walleye last week and drifted it. we did manage to hook about 15 walleye but only 3 legal fish. But all in all it was a pretty good day. We had a live well full of fish and many more missed and thrown backs. We did however manage to lose my prop for my trolling motor while it was in the water so that sucked but oh well, it was just a great day of fishing with some nice fish caught.

wilson with family

Went fishing with family today at wilson resorvoir, their was five of us fishing. it had its fast fishing times and also slow fishing times but overall it was pretty good. caught a lot of short wallleye but i think we managed to put about 8 to 10 keeper walleye in the boat and also one good catfish. it was about 20 to 25 mile per hour winds but it was a good chop for drifting which is pretty much how most of the fish were caught using jig and worm. The biggest fish was caught by myself which was a 20" 3 lb walleye. there was also others out on the lake that were also bringing in some walleye, white bass, and small striper.

Wilson Lake

Well it was a pretty nice day today so a friend and i decided to go fishing. It was overcast sky's, very light winds and a chance for rain, but we decided the rain was no big deal if it did. We went to Wilson and got the boat in the water. we was headed to a fishing spot on the Lower end of the lake heading east when we saw lightning strikes. Needless to say that was the end of our fishing trip. a big waste of our time but that is how the weather has been treating us lately. We did have 2 guys in another boat that said they were fishing for a few hours and were also getting off the water because of the lightning. they had caught 2 legal walleye and i think they said a bass. We will try again next week.

Webster

Well i had two friends and me finally make it out to the lake today to try some fishing. once again just like kansas it was windy, i would say between 18 and 20 plus miles per hour. the water temperature was between 42 and 46 degrees. i thought this would make the walleye start staging and spawning and thought that we could come away with some nice walleye. Wrong we fished for 5 hours trying jigs, crankbaits, worms, drifting and trolling and caught absolutely nothing. we did have 2 short hits where all the fish did was bite the end of the worms off. We were not the only ones though everyone else on the lake was fishing the dam the whole time we were and nobody else pulled in any fish either. several other boaters we talked to said they didn't even get a bite. Once again it was some tough fishing at webster lake, but that is o.k because i know the fishing will get better, especially since the lake is now full of water. the deepest areas we found were right around 42 feet deep.

first trip of 2009

first trip of 2009, Unfortunately i did not get to go. Have been planning a fishing trip to webster now for over 2 weeks. the weather during the weekdays has been fair into the 60's but the weekends have just screwed everything up, Cold fronts moved in and gave us winter weather temperatures. It was 7 degrees this morning and did not get over 35 today so this trip hopefully will take place next weekend.

Wilson lake

me and two friends went out to wilson lake early afternoon. it had been misty and light rain all day, with overcast skys. we thought it would be a great day for fishing. we launched the boat and went back to the west end to fish the river. i got the first bite of the day but did not catch it. my buddy got the next one and caught a drum. we kept getting small bites but not catching them, we figure they were white perch since wilson is full of them. We moved the boat to another location farther up the lake after several hours. Once again i got a bite and pulled in a carp. we caught nothing elso the entire afternoon but kept getting small nibbles.
